Governing Council Concludes

By extending our meeting day by 30 minutes, we were able to conclude all items of business today so we won't need to return tomorrow.

Some highlights from the day...

At the Sectional caucus meeting:
Local officials Rick Perez and Margery Schleh received 25 year Referee pins.

At the Governing Council meeting:
Bylaws changes were mostly adopted. Only one item had an amendment deleting part of the proposed text (the text that was deleted was about procedure for elections for nominating committee. It was brought back and passed in new business as a rule addition rather than a bylaw).

Jean Fahmie thanked the governing council for its support of special Olympics/therapeutic skating. This is her last year chairing that committee.

Katherine Specht was recognized for receiving her National appointment as a Data Operator. Congratulations Katie! Also, Dave Hopson (Capital City FSC) was recognized for receiving his appointment as a National Accountant.

Item 308 - proposal on how skaters qualify to final round. Board had not approved this. The delegate requested an amendment. After some discussion it was referred back to committee.
Item 501 - after much discussion, and I guess some confusion, the delegates voted to amend the Juvenile Pair requirements - 1 lift instead of two, single throw only, pivot spiral only. They also approved amending the Pre-Juvenile Pair requirements to delete the death spiral as an option (skaters at that level can do a pivot spiral only).

A new business item to change Juvenile & Intermediate back to the 6.0 system of judging did not pass!

All other actions taken by the Board were approved (see Interim report of action on members only site).

Justin Dillon was elected as one of the coaching members on the U.S. Figure Skating Board. Katherine Specht will continue as Chair of the Collegiate Committee.
