Getting here and Getting Prepared

Well, the forecast said thunderstorms but instead it was a lovely early evening to drive from Denver International to Colorado Spring.  Pikes Peak had lots of snow, and the lights of Colorado Springs - bigger than I remember - were sparkling in the twilight.

Prior to my drive I used my flight to review the Governing Council Meeting Book and additional materials.  These basically provide information on all proposals recommended by the various USFSA committees and the USFSA's Board's (BOD) position on them.

It was good to see that a number of items were submitted to clarify, make consistent, and/our codify items and/or procedures that were in practice, but have been confusing at time because of how they are presented in the rule book.  Most of this was brought to light by a study by legal experts USFSA commissioned specifically to review our legal documents.  These updates are called 'housekeeping'  - and who doesn't love a clean house!

The other theme that I saw was efforts from many Committees' to continue fine tuning the IJS system.  In reviewing the specific proposals I have mixed reactions; however, what I think is critical is that we now have a system - and more importantly a philosophy - that permits change in the name of improving the sport for all participants.

So tommorrow is THE DAY.  As some may know, every other year we do a more 'streamlined' meeting here in Colorado Springs.  This is one of those years. As delegates for the Club we are still very committed to be engaged in the meeting and vote in ways that will best support SMISC's members.

Look for more info on what happens tomorrow!
